Our history.
The Baptist Church was established in Burundi in 1928 by Danish Baptist missionaries, initially settled in MUSEMA, in the province of Kayanza, on sites previously occupied by German Protestants who had just left Burundi after the First World War.
Recognized as a non-profit organization, under the name of "Danish Baptist Mission", by the Royal Decree of June 6, 1933, this Church changed its name and took the name of "Union of Baptist Churches of Rwanda-Urundi" in from September 26, 1951, date of modification of the Royal Decree. After the independence of Burundi and Rwanda, the Union of Baptist Churches of Rwanda-Urundi “was split in two, a consequence of the separation of the two former colonies.
Thus the mission of Burundi was born and was henceforth called “Union of Baptist Churches of Burundi”, (UEBB in acronym). It received authorization to carry out its missionary activities by Ministerial Order N° 100/009 of January 31, 1966.
Today the UEBB has been operating as a religious Confession since September 3, 2018 by Act and Compliance of the church Number 530/1762/CAB/2018 taking note of the decisions of the general assembly of 12/11/2017 during which the statutes and the Internal Rules of the UEBB were amended.
Currently, the UEBB has 140 pastors and has 135 churches and 124 branches and has more than 55,000 baptized members throughout the country.
